Fishing remains good throughout the area

Strong tides and an overabundance of baitfish are a big part of the reason why the fishing has been so good throughout the Intracoastal Waterway and the area. On-again off-again onshore winds have made fishing the nearshore Gulf tricky over the past couple of weeks....

It’s a great time to be on the water

Cooler, crisper weather the last several days has really made it feel great on the water. As the water temperatures slowly inch their way down, fish activity goes up. Spanish mackerel, snook, trout, redfish and mangrove snapper are great options for anglers right now....

‘Cooler’ temperatures will only help an already hot bite

Subtle hints of fall should become more apparent in the not so distant future. Overnight low temperatures are falling into the low-70s consistently, which will help to bring our water temperatures down. Currently, inshore waters are full of bait, sparking a hot action...

Be on the lookout for schools of redfish, Spanish mackerel

This past weekend we finally saw the winds calm down a bit and switch back out of the east. Prior to Hurricane Dorian we were experiencing some of the best fishing in months. Hopefully, we will get a nice stretch of consistent weather this week; if so the fishing...

Fish Tales – Gulf Water Temperatures Cause Challenges For Local Anglers

Late summer is a great time to target snook. With the spawning season over these fish are on their way back into the inlets where they will post up on bait filled grass flats, residential docks and deep mangrove shorelines. The fall snook season opens Sept 1. The...

Captain’s Corner: Big improvement in beach fishing

East winds have returned after a week long onslaught of onshore winds. Beach conditions have improved dramatically over the past couple of days. Clearing water and light seas have brought baitfish back right along the beaches. Using a quarter-inch mesh cast net will...

Fish Tales – Snook Strongest Around Inlets

The fall snook season is now open. After what was a great catch and release summer for snook it’s hard to argue with the way the snook fishery has been managed. The largest concentrations of snook right now are still going to be found in or around any of the inlets...

Fish Tales – Cool Rains Aid Fishing Activity

Big rains forecasted this week could be enough to keep anglers in port for a few days. However, when you do get a chance to get back out on the water, you might see a resurgence of action, especially in our shallow water fishery. Heavy rains the first part of this...

Captain’s Corner: Predawn low tides bring success

Predawn low tides are the focus this week due partly to the cooler water temperature first thing in the morning. Also playing a big role is the massive amount of baitfish in the area. Juvenile threadfin herring and Spanish sardines are thick throughout the...

Captain’s Corner: Weather improves, fishing still slow

Despite a drastic improvement in the weather the last few days, the fishing remains slow. Fresh water has filled the Intracoastal Waterway due to the recent major rain. Time and better tides are needed to get inshore fishing back on track. Full moon tides last week...
